Why PatchYourself exists, who it's for, and how you can contribute.
Why this project exists
Most people don't get hacked because they're careless. They get hacked because nobody ever explained the basics in a way that made sense. PatchYourself exists to fix that: free, open-source cybersecurity education that starts from real situations, not jargon.
Who is it for?
How it works
Situation first
Every module starts from a real-life scenario, not a technical definition.
Zero guilt
No shaming. Most people do the same things. We show how to improve, not what you did wrong.
Realistic actions
Each module separates reading time from the time needed to act. You can start small and return later.
Three reading depths
Main text for everyone, "Go further" blocks for the curious, and a glossary for reference.
Sources and updates
PatchYourself maintains these guides. Each module lists its sources and editorial review date. Opening stories are explicitly labelled fictional examples. Prices and settings can change: check the linked official documentation before acting. An editorial review is not an independent security certification.
Open source, forever free
PatchYourself is licensed under CC BY-SA 4.0. The entire codebase is on GitHub. Anyone can contribute: fix a typo, translate a module, suggest a new topic, or improve the design.
