Fictional example: an everyday situation

Sacha has updated his devices but has not prepared email recovery. The checklist helps him choose that next action. He has no children and excludes questions that do not apply.

What is the checklist for?

Reading advice and putting it into practice are different steps. The checklist gathers practices you report following and suggests next actions. It is not a technical assessment or a security rating.

What to do now

Step 1: Check only completed actions

Review the categories. Leave unfinished actions unchecked; their “How do I do this?” link opens a useful module. If a question does not apply and offers “Not applicable”, choose it to remove that item from the total.

Step 2: Choose a useful action

The checklist prioritizes your main email, sign-in protection and recovery, followed by devices and backups. This is an editorial guide, not a calculation of hacking probability. If an incident is already happening, use the emergency guide.

Step 3: Keep a record

Progress stays in this browser on this device. It may disappear if you clear site data or use a private session. Print the checklist or practical handout for a copy to keep or share.

Step 4: Return after changes

A new phone, email account or backup setup is a reason to review your practices. You can also plan your own periodic check. A completed checkbox is not a permanent guarantee.

Honest progress

Checked actions are self-reported. The website does not verify account or device configuration. Even completing every item does not mean no attack can succeed.

Helping someone else

Suggest an action and let the person use their own device. Do not ask for their passwords or codes. The handout and email guide can help structure the conversation.
